The story
Chicago financier Samuel Mayo Nickerson built the Fieldstone Hall estate here for his son Roland, whose family began summering there in 1890. After misfortunes struck the first mansion, Roland’s widow Addie began the present stucco mansion in 1907 to designs by Horace Frazer, with Italian marble inside and a carved oak staircase. The Missionaries of La Salette bought it in 1945 for a seminary, and in the early 1980s Corcoran Jennison bought it and made it the centerpiece of the Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club.
