The story

The Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway founded the Cloudcroft resort in 1899 while seeking timber for railroad ties, and a log lodge opened in 1901. After fire destroyed it in June 1909, local doctors persuaded the El Paso and Southwestern Railroad to rebuild, and the new Lodge opened on its present site by 1911. Guests have included Pancho Villa, Judy Garland, Clark Gable and Gilbert Roland, and Conrad Hilton managed it in the 1930s (hotel history).

The ghost story

The hotel says its resident ghost, Rebecca, is well known for her mischief, and it invites guests to go ghost hunting.
