The story
Cambridge built Engine House No. 7 in 1894 for Kendall Square’s new Engine 7, to designs by Boston architects R. J. Fitzgerald and S. D. Mitchell; HHA calls it one of the region’s first single-purpose fire stations. Engine 7 moved out in 1993. Artist Charlotte Forsythe and her husband Gerald Fandetti bought the building from the city in 1999, restored the firehouse and its cupola and added a seven-story tower behind it, and The Kendall Hotel opened in 2002.
