The story
David and Amelia Lilienfeld built the house in 1878; David and his brother William ran D. Lilienfeld & Brothers, a cigar company that later added wholesale liquor and imported beer. In 1908 the Kalamazoo Gazette recalled the house as a social center for Kalamazoo society. The building was slated for demolition in 1985 before being saved, and the inn now takes its name from the city’s first hotel.
