The story

Buffalo Bill Cody built the stone hotel in the town he founded and named it for his daughter Irma; it opened with a gala party on November 18, 1902. Its famous cherrywood back bar is said to have been a gift from Queen Victoria. About 1930 the Newell family added a two-story, 28-room cream-brick annex against the west wall. The hotel was listed on the National Register in 1973, when its owners were turning the original rooms into Victorian-style suites.

The ghost story

Staff and guests report friendly ghosts, including sightings said to be Buffalo Bill himself, a well-dressed man who vanishes from a restaurant booth, and a soldier in Room 35, the room a hallucinating cavalryman shot up in 1912 according to a local historian.
