The story
The Chesapeake Academy was built in 1890 west of the Irvington Methodist Church, showing Gothic Revival influence in its gables and tower windows. From 1907 to 1915 it served as Irvington High School, after educating more than 450 students. It was later converted to a house, then operated as the King Carter Inn and finally as the Hope and Glory Inn.
