The story
Architect George King designed the building for the Callaway brothers, William, George and John, merchants who came to Leadville to make their fortunes, and their Delaware Block store opened in 1886. After closing their Leadville store in 1890 they leased the ground floor to the Crews Beggs Dry Goods Company, which stayed until the late 1970s. The hotel has taken in travelers on Harrison Avenue since 1886, at 10,152 feet.
The ghost story
The hotel names its 'resident ghost' as Mary Coffey, and staff say one of the Callaway brothers who built it is also said to hang around.
