The story

Lon Megargee built his adobe studio on six acres from 1935, using old mine beams and aging the walls with oil and ash, and began taking long-staying guests as a guest ranch. Later owners renamed it the Hermosa Inn and added a pool, casitas and villas. A 1987 fire badly damaged the original building; Fred and Jennifer Unger restored it and reopened in 1994 with the restaurant Lon’s in the original hacienda. The Allred family bought it in 2015 and renovated the historic rancho casitas.

The ghost story

Guests and staff report seeing the ghost of founder Lon Megargee, a lanky cowboy figure, and blame him for toilets flushing on their own and glasses breaking late at night.
