The story
The hotel occupies buildings of the Asheville Supply and Foundry Company, incorporated in 1895, whose structural steel went into Asheville buildings including the Jackson Building. The ca. 1920 machine shop and woodworking shop are three-story brick industrial buildings recorded as contributing in the 1979 downtown district. The foundry closed in 1950, and the buildings were later rehabilitated into a hotel under the guidance of the NC State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service; some guest rooms keep the factory’s exposed brick walls. The site is in The Block, one of Asheville’s best-known historically African American neighborhoods.
