The story
MACRIS records the Stephen Daniels House at 1 Daniels Street as a First Period house built in 1667, and the inn, which calls itself Salem’s oldest, says a sea captain built it. Its open-hearth fireplaces, exposed beams and paneled walls predate the 1692 witch trials. New owners restored it and reopened it in 2019, with Silsbee’s, a c. 1843 Victorian building next door that began as the family’s barn, as a second building.
