The story
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows built the six-story Classical Revival building in 1909 as a lodge and hotel on land just east of the Alamo; per HHA, the hotel’s pool area sits where troops massed on the night before the 1836 battle and where Davy Crockett’s men held the southeast palisade. A seven-story west wing followed in 1927. San Antonio native John Blocker bought the hotel in 1982, and his wife Jeanne and her sister Mary Ann Castleberry, a past president of the San Antonio Conservation Society, led its restoration.
The ghost story
The hotel's assistant general manager told KSAT that strange things sometimes happen on the fourth floor, including an elevator that traveled between floors with no one pressing a button, and that staff accounts have drawn ghost hunters to the hotel.
