The Country Inn of Berkeley Springs

Built in 1933 as the Park View Inn on the site, the inn says, of the hotel where James K. Polk stayed in 1848; some rooms are in a 1980s building.

The story

The inn stands on the site of the Strother family’s 500-room Berkeley Springs Hotel, where President James K. Polk stayed in 1848 and which burned in March 1898. After decades of false starts, the Harmison family built the present center section in the early 1930s as the Park View Inn, adding two wings in 1937. Jack and Adele Barker bought it in 1972 and renamed it The Country Inn; a dining room, spa and rooms in a separate building followed in the 1980s. The local Omps family bought it in August 2013.
