The story
Archibald Welsh Comstock built the house and outbuildings on 53 acres in Ivoryton in 1889; his father Samuel Comstock had founded the ivory-importing and piano-key firm S.M. Comstock Co. in 1847. After Archibald died in 1940 the estate passed to his wife Harriet, and in 1954 it was sold and became a restaurant called the Johnny Cake Inn. Robert and Jo McKenzie bought it in 1972 and named it the Copper Beech Inn after the tree at its entrance. Of the 22 rooms, 4 are in the Main House, 9 in the turn-of-the-century Carriage House and 9 in the Comstock House, completed in 2007.
