The story
The George Wythe Hotel opened at 170 E. Main Street in 1927, a four-story brick building by Frye & Stone with 42 rooms that served traffic on the new Lee Highway (Route 11). It closed as a hotel in the mid-1970s and housed banks for decades. Local residents Bill and Farron Smith bought it in 2010 and reopened it in 2014 as the Bolling Wilson Hotel, named for First Lady Edith Bolling Wilson, who was born across the street and stayed here on her last visit to Wytheville in 1960.
