The story
Abbeville merchant P. Rosenberg promoted a “new and modern hotel” in 1902, and the $30,000 Eureka Hotel opened on August 19, 1903 with 34 rooms. It served as a railroad hotel and lodged Vaudeville performers traveling between New York and Miami; the inn lists Fanny Brice, Jimmy Durante, Ricky Nelson and Jimmy Carter among its guests. Renamed the Belmont in the mid-20th century, it declined in the 1970s and was restored in the 1980s and 1990s with 25 rooms and private baths.
