The story
Walter Paris built the house in 1883 for about $18,000 but never lived there; lawyer Theodore Tyrer lived in it from 1886 to 1901 and in 1899 had T. Franklin Schneider replace the front porch. In January 1912 its owner, the widow Lucretia Roberts Cromwell, married Philadelphia banker Edward T. Stotesbury in one of the season’s grand weddings. Restored from 1986 and named Swann House for its Swann Street side, it opened as a bed and breakfast in 1996, and hotelier verdigreen bought and renovated it in 2022.
