The story
The Tudor Revival house at 228 North State Street was built around 1911 for Walt Conaway and his wife and was later the home of Simeon S. Pennewill, Governor of Delaware from 1909 to 1913. It became a bed-and-breakfast, first called the Tudor House, around 1984. Mike and Yvonne Hall bought it in 2003 and reopened it as the State Street Inn in 2005; Fred and Joan Breukelman and their son Steve took over in 2017, and Bruce and Kiya Johnson became the owners in late 2023.
