The story
The railroad reached Sheridan in 1892, and the inn opened a year later to Thomas Kimball’s design, a 145-foot, three-story building with broad porches. Buffalo Bill Cody led the grand march at the opening, auditioned Wild West performers on its lawn and for a time owned it. Miss Kate Arnold came to work there in 1901 and stayed for most of her life. In the revitalized inn, all 22 rooms are named for Buffalo Bill and figures from his life.
The ghost story
Miss Kate Arnold worked at the inn for decades and her ashes rest in the wall of Room 306; guests on the third floor have reported hearing her old lights-out whistle and cold spots, and staff say she 'does still oversee the inn lovingly'.
