The story

The mansion was built in 1885 for Nathan Phipps and Elmarine Ogden, when St. Joseph was known as the ‘Queen of the River Cities’. It stands on a bluff above the city and the Missouri River among the Hall Street mansions known locally as Millionaires’ Row. It keeps 47 original stained-glass windows and carved cherry, mahogany, oak and walnut woodwork, with a bust of Shakespeare over the foyer fireplace.
