The story

The motor court opened on Route 66 in 1929 with cottages around a central courtyard. In 1948 its wood-sided bungalows were faced in giraffe-style masonry and sandstone and it was renamed Rockwood Motor Court. Phyllis Ferguson and Tim Phillips restored it from 2019; it bills itself as the oldest operating motel on Route 66, and it was inducted into Historic Hotels of America in 2025. A converted 1929 Shell filling station is now one of its rentals.
