The story
The Daley family, who ranched part of the old Rancho San Bernardo, opened the inn in 1963 with 30 rooms at $8 a night and an 18-hole course by William Bell. Bob Hope and Bing Crosby were early guests, and the PGA’s San Diego Open was held here from 1964. Later expansions by JC Resorts took it to about 287 rooms with ballrooms and a spa.
