The story
A group of Union Pacific-connected investors organized the Island Park Land and Cattle Company in Salt Lake City on July 8, 1902, and the property became known locally as the Railroad Ranch. The Guggenheim and Harriman families later became shareholders and used it as a working cattle ranch and private retreat. The Ranch Manager’s House began as the clubhouse of shareholder Silas Eccles and later held guests of S.R. Guggenheim. The ranch passed to Idaho on April 1, 1977 as Harriman State Park, which opened to the public in 1982.
