The story
Col. Ebenezer Crafts, who had studied at Yale intending to enter the ministry, built a large house on the Sturbridge town green on the eve of the Revolution and ran part of it as a roadside inn. The two-story building had public rooms and a big kitchen downstairs and 13 guest rooms upstairs; the old kitchen is now the Tap Room. Today the historic inn has 17 rooms and suites, with more in the Chamberlain House, Tillyer House and Country Motor Lodge.
