The story
The Civilian Conservation Corps built Pickett’s park structures between the mid-1930s and early 1940s, including rock-faced stone and wood-shingle rental cabins, stone trail shelters, and roads and trails laid out along the lakeshore and creeks; the park now carries the CCC in its name. The National Register district, listed in 1986 with Tennessee’s other CCC and WPA parks, counts five historic cabins (Nos. 1-5) among its resources. The state still rents them alongside newer cabins through its online reservation system.
