The story

The farmhouse at the core of the inn dates to about 1834, and the Philbrook family began taking in tourists in 1861, making it one of the earliest surviving guest houses in northern New Hampshire. They extended the house east in 1861 and added a guest-room wing in 1906. After a 1934 fire destroyed a barn and outbuildings, the present dining and kitchen wings were built. The inn ran under the same family for more than 120 years.
