The story

The Pentagöet is a Queen Anne Victorian summer hotel built in 1894 on a bluff above Castine’s village and harbor, and it bills itself as the town’s oldest. Julie Van de Graaf and Jack Burke ran it for 22 years before Matt Powell and George Trinovitch bought it in summer 2022. The new owners redesigned the lobby, piano parlor, staircase and dining room and restored the Perkins House annex for 2023, then completed the grand staircase restoration in 2024 with a National Trust for Historic Preservation grant.
