The story
Brothers Chauncey, Gronway and Whit Parry, who ran tour buses to the southern Utah parks from 1917, converted an 1892 house into a motel and restaurant in 1930-31, and the lodge opened in summer 1931. It became the base for Hollywood crews filming in ‘Little Hollywood’: the lodge says more than 100 productions stayed, with guests including John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Frank Sinatra, Maureen O’Hara and Ronald Reagan. Motel buildings known as Movie I, Movie II, Movie III and the Cottages carry nameplates of the stars who stayed in each room.
