The story
CCC Company 1523 set up Camp Morgan at Cacapon in October 1934 and built the park’s roads, trails, cabins and the Old Inn from locally sourced logs, stone and sand. The nomination calls the Old Inn the first lodge in West Virginia’s park system; the state park opened to the public on July 1, 1937. The two-story log building has three large stone chimneys, and recent work removed board-and-batten siding to show the original logs. The modern 120-room resort lodge is a separate building.
