The story
Marr & Holman designed the twelve-story Noel Hotel, one of the firm’s last Neo-classical designs; it was begun in December 1928 on property owned by the O. F. Noel family and opened in 1930 at a cost of about $1.25 million. It opened during the Depression but stayed in operation for several decades, and in 1973 it was rehabilitated into a bank building and financial center. Today’s Noelle restored the original Tennessee marble walls and terrazzo floors, and its street-level Drug Store Coffee occupies the space of Noel Place’s old drug store counter. Printers Alley runs behind the building.
