The story

The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island built the four-story brick building in 1911 as a rescue mission, and it later served as a hotel (Hotel Plaza, then the Civic View Inn). By 1984 it housed one of the city’s few semi-topless bars, and it later operated as the Sportsman’s Inn strip club. ASH NYC and Kite Architects converted it into The Dean boutique hotel in 2014. Ash Hotels has since renamed it Neptune; it has 52 rooms, a cocktail bar, a café and a private-room karaoke lounge.
