The story
Mountain Lake has had a resort hotel since the 1850s for visitors seeking cool summers at about 4,000 feet. Galveston hotel and insurance magnate William Lewis Moody Jr. built the present hotel in 1936 of poured concrete clad in native limestone gathered on Salt Pond Mountain. In 2000 it had 100 rooms, eight of them suites. The lodge says it was a primary filming location for the film Dirty Dancing.
