The story
Tacoma’s Elks lodge built the seven-story temple in 1915-16 in the Second Renaissance Revival style, to designs by É. Frère Champney, a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts. The adjacent Spanish Steps were built in 1916 to link Broadway with City Hall. McMenamins restored it into a hotel with 45 king rooms, bars and the Spanish Ballroom.
