The story

The county poor farm opened in 1911 to replace an older facility in Portland’s West Hills, and 211 residents moved in that November; it was Oregon’s largest county-funded relief institution. Residents worked the farm’s crops and livestock, and the population peaked at 614 in 1935. It later served as a nursing home before standing empty in the 1980s. McMenamins has run it since 1990 as a lodging and entertainment complex with over 100 rooms and hostel beds.

The ghost story

Reported sightings include a female nurse said to walk the halls of the hotel.
