The story
Edmond G. Watkins built the three-story Victorian Romanesque house in 1889, and the inn says it was built from stones of Fort Wood, a Union Army redoubt. Watkins became president of the Lookout Mountain Land Company and the Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain Railway Company and was elected mayor in 1897. In 1901 the house was bought by Edward Gould Richmond, first president of the Chattanooga Library. The interior has hand-laid parquet floors in five woods and 14 gables.
