The story

Charles Eisenbeis, a Prussian-born baker who became one of Port Townsend’s leading developers, built the castle-like brick house at the peak of the boom in 1892. The Jesuit order bought it in 1925, named it Manresa Hall and added a wing and an elevator in 1928. It has operated as a hotel in recent decades; it was auctioned in 2004 and sold in 2016 to H&R Hospitality.

The ghost story

Guests have long reported footsteps in the attic and voices in empty rooms, and two stories grew up around them, of a priest said to have hanged himself in the building and a young woman named Kate said to have leapt from a window after hearing her fiancé was lost at sea; but the hotel's former manager admitted that a bartender invented both, the Peninsula Daily News reported in 2006.
