The story
Two brothers-in-law built the twin townhouses, begun soon after Alabama passed its secession ordinance in 1861. The houses stayed in the Goldsmith and Frohlichstein families for many years and changed hands several times in the early 1900s before the current owners’ family bought them in the mid-1960s. A 1967 renovation joined them into a hotel and added second and third stories over the original carriage house at the rear. The surviving carriage house is now used for weddings and events.
The ghost story
Visit Mobile calls it one of Alabama's most haunted hotels by reputation, citing guests' reports of a woman in white pacing the balcony, a swinging chandelier, lights turning on by themselves and furniture moving. WKRG reported that some believe the lady in white outside Room 007 is Maime Sinclair, grandmother of owner Jordan Beam, and that the lobby chandelier below that room is said to swing when business is struggling.
