The story

Minneapolis architect William M. Ingemann designed the brick inn, which went up in 1926-27 with Federal-style end chimneys and a 13-column, two-story portico across its front. The Stillwater Planning Department’s photo record says it opened in 1927 on the site of the former Sawyer House hotel and that Nelle and Arthur Palmer ran it until the 1970s. Today it offers 23 restored rooms in the historic building and 12 contemporary rooms in a newer annex, with a restaurant that serves fondue dinners by reservation.
