The story
The ranch was part of the Armijo family’s holdings in the 19th century. Albert Simms bought it in 1928, and after his marriage to Ruth Hanna McCormick, John Gaw Meem remodeled the foreman’s adobe into the main house, built in 1932, with gardens by Rose Greeley (1933); Meem also designed La Quinta in 1935. Armin and Penny Rembe made it their home in 1976, reunited the estate in 1999 and opened the Meem residence as a five-room bed and breakfast.
