The story

The Lake View House was built around 1858 on the western end of the Huron Street business district and substantially enlarged in the 1890s, when its corner towers and porches were added. The NHL nomination calls it nearly as old as the Island House, the island’s first purpose-built hotel. The hotel describes itself as the oldest continuously operated hotel on Mackinac Island. A four-story atrium with an indoor pool now sits inside the hotel.
