The story

Harvey Couch, founder of Arkansas Power and Light, donated 2,048 acres along Lake Catherine to the state in August 1935, and the CCC built the park. Its stone-and-wood cabins were built as overnight accommodations for park visitors. Three cabins, a former concessions building and a bridge are listed on the National Register as examples of CCC rustic architecture.
