The story
Rubush & Hunter designed the Illinois Building as offices near Monument Circle; the William P. Jungclaus Company built it and Alexander Sangernebo carved its sculptural trim. It was named one of Indiana’s 10 most endangered landmarks before Indianapolis developer Keystone Group bought it. A $120 million restoration kept parts of the original lobby, added a rooftop floor and turned it into the 170-room InterContinental Indianapolis, which began welcoming guests on February 20, 2025.
