The story
Adler & Sullivan of Chicago designed the 14-story Union Trust Building, built in 1892-93; it is the firm’s only building with an exterior light court. Its original arched entrance, round second-story windows and sculpted lions were removed in the 1920s, though terra cotta lion heads survive near the top. A matching 1905 addition by Eames & Young adjoins it. It became a City Landmark in 1971 and now operates as Hotel Saint Louis, an Autograph Collection hotel.
