The story
The seven-story Lederer Building went up in 1897 with an elaborate two-story entrance, a projecting bay window and a heavy copper cornice. For most of its life it housed small businesses, mainly tailors, dressmakers, milliners and hairdressers. The National Register nomination singles it out as combining a plain commercial format with more elaborate Beaux-Arts detail. It now operates as Hotel Providence, with 80 guestrooms and 16 suites.
