The story

Harry and Will Pattee built the three-story hotel in 1913 as a memorial to their father, David J. Pattee, on or near the site of his first store in Perry. Des Moines architects Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson drew the plans. A period description quoted on the hotel’s history page called it the finest hotel in central Iowa. Today every guest room is individually decorated around the history and people of the region, and the Pattee Café’s Arrow Room recreates an early-20th-century railroad dining car.
