The story
Early El Paso promoter Zach White, who arrived in 1881 and built the Santa Fe International Bridge and an early streetcar line, built the ten-story brick and terra cotta hotel. Trost & Trost designed it to be fireproof, and it was completed in 1912. White saw El Paso as the gateway to Mexico, and the hotel was his most visible contribution to the city.
