The story

The building opened in 1926 as the Santa Fe Railway Hospital for injured AT&SF railroad workers; the campus also had a chief surgeon’s residence, a nurses’ dormitory and a boiler plant, all still standing. Renamed AT&SF Hospital in the 1940s, it was bought by a group of psychiatrists in the 1980s and ran as Memorial Hospital, a children’s mental-health facility, from 1981 to 2006, then sat empty. After a four-year renovation that rebuilt all 160 original windows, it reopened as Hotel Parq Central in 2010.
