The story
The Sioux Falls National Bank commissioned this nine-story building in 1916-17 as a bank and professional offices, and 10,000 people reportedly visited on opening day in 1918. It was the tallest commercial office building in South Dakota and the city’s only surviving Sullivanesque commercial building. The bank failed in the 1920s, but new owners added to the building in 1929. The original bank vault, with its 16-ton door, is now the entrance to the Treasury lounge.
