The story
Mrs. Mariner built the six-story John W. Mariner Building in 1937 in memory of her husband, to designs by the Milwaukee firm Eschweiler & Eschweiler. Its smooth Bedford limestone walls, incised with vertical ribs and low-relief carving, make it a good example of 1930s commercial architecture in Milwaukee. The former office building is now an Art Deco boutique hotel and joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection as the brand’s first Wisconsin property.
