The story
Marcel Breuer and Robert F. Gatje designed the building as headquarters for the Armstrong Rubber Company, with research and development space on the lower floors; it was completed in May 1970. Pirelli acquired Armstrong in 1988 and moved out in 1999. Developer Bruce Redman Becker bought the building from IKEA around the start of 2020, and it reopened as the 165-room Hotel Marcel on May 16, 2022. Wikipedia describes it as a zero-energy, Passive House-certified, LEED Platinum hotel.
