The story

The hotel occupies the LaSalle Building at Fifth and Olive, a red-brick Chicago Commercial-style tower that HHA dates to 1909. Its first two floors are clad in white-glazed terra cotta, and inside it keeps marble-lined walls, multicolored ceramic tile and brass-inlaid elevators. HHA notes the foundation used the Simplex method of poured concrete piles. Its rooftop bar, Eero’s Penthouse, is named for Gateway Arch architect Eero Saarinen.
